Liar's Contest Guidelines
1. The “lies”
should be short stories (humorous, dramatic, supernatural, etc.)
with a maximum length of 5 - 7 minutes.
2. Registration
begins on Friday September 21 and continues through the contest or
until all slots have been filled. All contestants must register and
early registration is recommended. Contestants not arriving until
Saturday who wish to ensure a competition slot may register by
sending an
email or phoning 717-337-0080.
The contest will begin at
1:30 PM Saturday
afternoon with three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd places) to be chosen
from all competitors.
3. Prize(s) will be
awarded following the contest.
4. Judging will be
done by a panel of three lying experts and local personalities who
will score each contestant in the following categories:

Technique
- Delivery, confidence, general stagecraft

Story
Development
- Good development of the tale in time available
-
Originality
- New material, or fresh handling of a familiar yarn

Effectiveness
- In judges’ opinion, taking audience response into consideration
The three judges
will score each of the four categories on a scale of 1 to 5 with a
maximum of 20 points per competitor. Final scores will not be
given to contestants.
5. The judges will
confer at the end of the contest to decide the winners.
6. The decision of
the judges will be final.
7. All tales will
be recorded and deposited in the Northeast Storytelling Festival
Archives. The tales may be published in various publications.
8.
The golden
shovel trophy will be passed from the 2006 winner to the 2007 winner
and the 2007 winner will open the evening show on Saturday night
with a 10 minute lie. In the same
manner, the
golden shovel
trophy will be passed from the 2007 winner to the 2008 winner at the
2008 Northeast Storytelling Festival.
